The Faculty of Health drives innovation in teaching, learning, research, and social impact. We’re seeking a Senior Lecturer to lead as Course Director for the Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education, leading the unit and course teaching teams in our undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

As a Senior Lecturer, you will:


	Provide academic leadership in the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Diabetes Education programs.
	Ensure the curriculum aligns with professional standards, accreditation requirements, and emerging evidence in diabetes care and education.
	Build and maintain strong partnerships with health services, professional bodies, and stakeholders to support student learning and course relevance.
	Develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics at unit and course level. Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes. Lead moderation of assessment tasks at course level and adapt practices to improve learning outcomes.
	Provide academic support to students within units and courses and work collaboratively to improve student support services to optimise student outcomes.


To be successful, you’ll have: 


	Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered nurse.
	PhD in a relevant discipline and/or advanced qualifications and experience in Diabetes education.
	Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design and research supervision.
	Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.

The chair of Prof. Zerbes is an independent organizational unit of the Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology and focuses its research on criminal law, criminal procedural law, the basic principles and rights of criminal law, in selected areas of commercial criminal law, in European and international criminal law and in comparative criminal law.

As a staff member, you will be involved in shaping the chair and, after training, you will work independently in all areas of criminal law and criminal procedural law. Your main tasks will be creating the podcast ‘ATreloaded’. Together with Prof. Zerbes and her team, you will produce the episodes, supervise the recording and prepare for publication.

Your personal sphere of influence:

Your task as an university assistant (prae doc) is collaboration in research and teaching. This includes, additional to writing you dissertation, especially


	the support of students
	the participation in correcting exams
	organizational matters (also concerning seminars and other lectures)
	research relating to various research projects
	independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
	technical support for the podcast ‘ATreloaded’


We expect the sucessful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.

The contract period upon employment is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not submit a non-extension declaration within the first 12 months.

Requirements:


	Completed diploma in law
	Excellent knowledge of Austrian (criminal) law
	Knowledge of international criminal law and European criminal law
	Working independently and responsible for results
	Excellent knowledge of German
	Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
	Extensive computer skills in any case in MS Office and in particular the audio programme Audacity


Also desirable are:


	In-depth study of criminal law and criminology as part of the elective course or in the course of the diploma thesis
	Relevant dissertation project
	Good knowledge of another foreign language, which enables legal work in this language
	Experience in legal practice through legal traineeship, legal internship

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Technology (situated in Doornfontein Campus) is one of the biggest departments in terms of staff and student complement comprised of a dedicated team of Researchers focused on pioneering advancements within the field. It offers accredited engineering programmes in Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech), BEngTech Honours, Masters and PhD in Engineering. The department is looking for someone who is passionate about teaching and learning and enhancing students' educational experiences with a research profile that can contribute to the societal impact and sustainability, global footprint and partnerships, and technology of the future. The incumbent will be required to teach departmental modules, conduct research, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students and perform other departmental duties.

Responsibilities:


	Demonstrating commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in the discipline of Mechanical
	Engineering, as well as supervising Masters and Doctoral students and mentoring Postdoctoral Research Fellows (PDRFs).
	Teaching innovation, online teaching and learning and computer literacy such as the ability to use Mechanical Engineering software packages (e.g. Autocad, Flownex, Matlab, StarCCM).
	Leading the curriculum development and reviewing programmes to stay up to date with societal, technological, and industry needs.
	Supervising final year undergraduate and honours student projects.?
	Conducting research: publish research work in journals, books, book chapters and conference proceedings consistent with the level of appointment.
	Liaising with industry for collaborations and projects and obtaining funding for research and other activities from external bodies.
	Compiling evidence of teaching and learning to ensure compliance with ECSA accreditation.
	Attending department and faculty meetings including various committees’ engagements.
	Liaising and assisting when required with student issues upon delegation of authority of the HoD.
	Advance the discipline of Mechanical Engineering through community and industrial development including participating in professional societies (e.g. ECSA) and voluntary associations (e.g. SAIMechE).

	A Doctoral qualification in Engineering (NQF Level 10).
	BTech, BEng Tech or BSc (Eng) or B Eng in Mechanical Engineering.

	Strong evidence of research outputs in DHET accredited journals at an Associate Professor level.
	Experience in supervising and promoting postgraduate students (Master’s and / or PhD).
	NRF rated or eligible to apply for NRF rating within one year.
	A track record of sourcing external research funding.
	Registered at least as a Candidate Engineer / Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and eligible to register as a Professional.
