Villa College

In the early 2000s, the Maldives shipping and trade magnate Qasim Ibrahim decided to expand into tertiary education. And so, in 2007, Villa College was opened: the Maldives’ first private university.��
It began with only 54 students in four classrooms, but has grown significantly since then. Today, there are 163 degree programmes on offer, ranging from foundation level through bachelor’s degrees to postgraduate degrees and professional certifications.��
Villa College is also the only Maldivian university to offer franchise degrees through partnerships with other universities. For example, nine undergraduate courses – including accounting and finance, business management, law and nursing – are offered through a partnership with the University of the West of England. A partnership with Taylor’s University in Malaysia brought with it degrees in international hospitality management and culinary management.
Campus labs cater to the courses on offer: there is a nursing lab, complete with hospital beds and mannequins, as well as psychology, engineering and pharmacy labs.��
Student accommodation is available on campus, and the university also provides a range of recreational activities for students. These range from table tennis to pool, chess and air hockey, as well as board games.��

The Vienna Doctoral School in Physics is home to 180 doctoral candidates in Physics at the University of Vienna who work at the forefront of science and receive training, mentoring and support to become independent researchers and to connect with the scientific community.

Your personal sphere of influence:

The Vienna Doctoral School in Physics offers up to nine 3-months PhD Completion Contracts for fellows of the Doctoral School who have held a position as University Assistant (praedoc) or as PhD project staff at the University of Vienna before. These Completion Contracts aim to support highly qualified fellows in the final phase of their doctoral studies. The recipients will be employed as University Assistants (praedoc) and will work at the Faculty of Physics. The start of the contracts is possible from 01 October 2026 onwards - the Fellowship must be completed within the year 2026.

Your future tasks:


	You actively participate in research, teaching & administration at the Faculty of Physics.
	Your main task is to complete and to submit your dissertation.
	You meet and consult with your supervisor(s) on a regular basis in order to prioritize your tasks and get the necessary support to complete your dissertation successfully in time.
	You actively seek support (workshops, training, coaching etc.) if necessary.
	You contribute to the organizational and administrative tasks of the Faculty of Physics e.g. supervision of students, organization of courses and holding examinations in accordance with the assignment.

	Actively enrolled to PhD studies in Physics at the University of Vienna.
	Full member of the VDSP who has followed all PHD curricular requirements as well as all regular VDSP requirements:
	
		Positively completed PhD presentation “FÖP”.
		Signed doctoral thesis agreement.
		All required annual progress reports BSP/V02E (formlerly called DZ/V02) and VDSP reports submitted.
		All compulsory coursework successfully completed.
		Participated in all required VDSP mentor meetings (at least once per year).
	
	
	Commitment to complete your doctoral studies within the anticipated time (within 3 months).
	Excellent academic record.


What we offer:

We offer you the unique opportunity to complete your scientific education and early career research training with your written PhD thesis in a focused effort that allows you to succeed.

The monthly gross salary for 40 hours/week for VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (prae doc) is € 3.776,10. Please note that the advertised Completion Fellowships are for 30 hours/week VwGr. B1 (prae doc), with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a vetting professional to join our Compliance team. You will deliver a partnering service to key customers across the University, providing first-class customer service and proficient business-focused advice and support. You will play a key role in ensuring we recruit safely, efficiently, and in line with our high standards. The role will have regular, close liaison with the University’s Security Controller.

Our People and Culture Compliance team provides a range of vetting services, a business-critical function, and is increasingly important given the nature of Cranfield’s work and strategic partnerships. The primary purpose of this role is to provide a focus of expertise for security and other vetting for the University and its subsidiaries, via support to screening and security clearance processes. You will be key in identifying and assessing risks so that effective vetting decisions are made and, when appropriate, risk mitigation measures are put in place.

The Compliance Advisor will work closely with the Senior Business Partner – Immigration and Security, and the Security Working Group, in supporting a variety of activities, including but not limited to:


	Providing advice to staff and candidates on security vetting and pre-screening clearance procedures.
	Coordinating vetting clearances for the Cranfield, MK:U and Shrivenham sites, including BPSS, Security Clearance, Developed Vetting and DBS.
	Ensuring security clearance applications are complete, appropriate, and processed within agreed timescales.
	Recording and maintaining security clearance data on our Cranfield Secure database.
	Producing and monitoring reports in order to inform internal University stakeholders about security vetting procedures.
	Monitoring and responding to queries in the Security inbox.
	Conducting research into best practices and using this to inform Cranfield’s ongoing adherence to the relevant security standards, currently IPSA.
	Representing People and Culture security and compliance on the relevant working groups.
	Providing wider support to the People and Culture team where required.


About You

You will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, be organised and detail focused, and demonstrate a practical, proactive and flexible approach to your work. You should have the ability to prioritise and to cope under pressure at busy times whilst keeping to deadlines. Teamworking skills and a focus on customer service are also essential. The appointee will be required to:

Doctoral Researcher in Digital Integrated Circuits

We are now looking for a Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) to join the Tiny Systems and Circuits (TSirc) group at Aalto University's Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering. In this position you will design the next generation of energy-efficient digital integrated circuits, taking them from RTL to a fabricated chip and PCB that you measure in our own labs. The position is part of the HolistIC project, which develops ultra-low-power system-on-chip designs for next-generation intelligent audio IoT sensors.

Your Role and Goals

As a Doctoral Researcher, you will:


	Design energy-efficient digital in-memory computing circuits for on-chip AI inference, spanning both full-custom design and RTL-based flows through synthesis and place-and-route to tape-out
	Verify and characterise your designs, from simulation and FPGA to measurement of the fabricated chips in our laboratory
	Publish and present your results at leading international venues, and complete your doctoral thesis in the Aalto Doctoral Programme in Electrical Engineering
	Contribute to teaching duties as part of your doctoral studies


Your Network and Team 

Currently, our research group consists of 1 professor, 3 PhD students, and several MSc or BSc research collaborators. The group is led by Professor Kwantae Kim.

Your Experience and Ambitions

We are looking for a thorough and motivated colleague who is expected to:


	Hold a Master’s degree and excellent study records in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, completed by the start of the position
	Have a solid background in digital hardware design: Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL, logic synthesis, and place-and-route
	Be familiar with Python programming
	Have a working proficiency in English. (Finnish language is not required.)

	Experience with FPGA prototyping
	Experience with the PyTorch framework
	Experience with analog or full-custom layout
	Prior tape-out experience in any technology


What We Offer


	We support a wide range of chip design tools required for tape-out (Cadence, Synopsys, etc.), and FPGA/PCB design.
	We have dedicated technical staff who manage PDK NDAs and maintain the computing cluster for circuit simulation and PDK installation.
	We provide chip measurement infrastructure covering DC to THz bandwidth at the School of Electrical Engineering.
	We collaborate with academic partners in Europe and Asia, including research visits abroad.


The contract is fixed-term and follows Aalto's standard 2+2 model. It will be made initially for two (2) years, with a six (6) month probationary period, and extended by two (2) further years after a successful mid-term review, giving a total duration of four (4) years. The starting salary for doctoral researcher is approximately 3100€/Month.
