The university offers a five-year undergraduate degree programme and a two-year master's degree programme. Doctoral degrees are available in selected disciplines.?
Teaching focuses on international relations, political science, global economy, and law. Instruction is provided by three departments, 22 chair departments, and eight centres, with 16 full professors, more than 70 holders of Doctor or Candidate of Sciences degrees, 55 associate professors, and 87 qualified faculty members.

The department is internationally recognised for its contributions to robotics, AI, and human-centred computing.

You will join the Vision & Human-Robot Interaction (VHR) Group, which brings together researchers working at the intersection of computer vision, robotics, and assistive technologies. The team is currently leading the NeuroHand project—a UKRI-funded programme focused on the development of a soft robotic exoskeleton glove for stroke rehabilitation. The role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful research that translates cutting-edge robotics into clinical and real-world settings.

About the role

The Department of Informatics is looking to recruit a a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to be appointed on a 1.0 FTE ending on 18th October 2026 investigating the development, clinical evaluation, and commercial translation of NeuroHand—a tendon-driven soft robotic exoskeleton glove for home-based hand rehabilitation in stroke survivors. The role is funded by a UKRI Proof of Concept grant and is based in the Vision & Human-Robot Interaction (VHR) Lab, within the Department of Informatics in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences at King’s College London.

The successful applicant will lead the integration of embedded control systems and multimodal intent detection (vision, force, voice), contribute to real-time control software and remote monitoring interface development, and oversee data collection during clinical user trials. They will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including robotics researchers, clinical advisors, regulatory consultants, and King's Innovation specialists. A key responsibility is to support the delivery of ISO 13485–compliant documentation and technical files necessary for CE/UKCA marking, as well as to contribute to patient and public involvement (PPI) sessions and commercial engagement activities.

The post-holder will be expected to demonstrate strong proficiency in robotics, embedded systems, and real-time signal processing, with a track record of research publications in human–robot interaction, rehabilitation robotics, or related areas. Experience with soft robotic systems, patient-facing trials, or medical device development is highly desirable.

This role provides an opportunity to work at the forefront of translational robotics, with the potential to contribute to a spin-out venture and significantly improve clinical outcomes for people living with upper-limb impairment following stroke.

This is a full time (35 hours per week) post, offered on a fixed term contract until the 18th October 2026.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	Demonstrated experience in mechanical design of exoskeletons, wearable robotics, or soft actuators.
	Hands-on expertise with multimodal sensing systems, including depth cameras (e.g. RealSense), event-based cameras (e.g. DVXplorer), and tactile/force sensors.
	Strong background in computer vision and deep learning, with practical implementation experience.
	Proficiency in programming with C++ and Python, including use of ROS or other real-time robotics frameworks.
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to present technical concepts to clinical and commercial stakeholders.
	Experience in scientific writing with at least one peer-reviewed publication in robotics, AI, or biomedical engineering.
	Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
	Strong time management skills and ability to deliver results within tight project timelines.


Desirable criteria


	Prior publications in top-tier conferences or journals such as CVPR, ICCV, TPAMI, TRO, Science Robotics, or IEEE BioRob.
	Experience with medical device development and understanding of ISO 13485 or CE/UKCA regulations.
	Experience conducting or supporting user studies involving patients or vulnerable populations.
	Knowledge of real-time control algorithms for assistive or rehabilitation systems.
	Experience contributing to patent applications, translational research, or spin-out formation.

The TOUR (Transforming cancer OUtcomes through Research) team aims to use science to improve healthcare outcomes by translating oncology research into clinical practice. TOUR is led by Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck, and comprises a team of quantitative and qualitative researchers, clinicians, students, research nurses, trial coordinators, and database managers who are active across the field of translational oncology research.?

Prof Van Hemelrijck also leads the Guy’s Cancer Real World Evidence (RWE) Programme with Dr Anne Rigg from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The programme aims to amplify Guy’s Cancer RWE data science capability and facilitate addressing answering challenging cancer research questions. The overall aim of Guy’s Cancer RWE Programme is to drive world class patient centred research.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate (Grade 6) with expertise in Real World Evidence (RWE) to join the TOUR team within the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge cancer epidemiology research, with a particular focus on the analysis of large-scale real-world datasets.

The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck and collaborators across clinical and academic teams – including King’s Health Partners and the South East London Cancer Alliance. They will be responsible for designing and conducting epidemiological studies using hospital data, national and international registries, and biobank resources such as the UK Biobank. The post holder will play a key role in managing and analysing complex datasets to generate insights that inform clinical practice and health policy.

This position is ideally suited for someone with a PhD in Cancer Epidemiology or a related field (or near completion), who has a strong background in RWD analyses and big data methodologies. The role will involve collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, contribution to peer-reviewed publications, and support for grant applications.

This is a full-time post, and you will be offered an a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027.

About You

You will hold a PhD in Cancer Epidemiology or a closely related field or be in the final stages of completing your doctoral thesis. You will have demonstrable experience in conducting Real World Data (RWD) analyses and working with large-scale datasets, including hospital records, national and international registries, and biobank resources such as the UK Biobank.?

You will be confident in applying advanced statistical methods to complex datasets and have a strong understanding of data governance and confidentiality in health research. Your ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams will be essential, as will your communication skills for presenting findings and contributing to publications and funding proposals.

Essential criteria:?


	PhD in Cancer Epidemiology or related field (or near completion)
	Proven experience in RWD analyses and big data methodologies
	Expertise in handling hospital data, registry data, and databases like the UK Biobank
	Strong statistical and analytical skills
