The University of Sri Jayewardenepura is the largest university in Sri Lanka in terms of student population – students number around 13,000 in total. With a history that dates back to 1873, the university is the second oldest university in Sri Lanka. The university was formerly known as Vidyodaya Pirivena but in 1959 it was officially established as the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. When the university was first founded it was home to five faculties: Buddhist studies, philosophy, languages, arts and Ayurveda and science. It has since expanded and is now home to eight faculties: humanities and social sciences, applied sciences, management studies and commerce, medical sciences, graduate studies, engineering, technology, and allied health sciences. The university conducts a lot of research and innovation in Sri Lanka. It has a research council of over 20 research centres including the Centre for Cancer Research, the Centre for Forestry and Environment and the Centre for Biotechnology. The university also has an Invention, Innovation and Venture Creation Council, which consists of over 50 entrepreneurs and stakeholders with more than 15 patents. The university is located in Gangodawila, in Nugegoda, just outside of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital. Colombo is the country’s largest city in terms of population and is also the financial centre.

Job description: The Applied Chemistry and Research Engineering (ACER) program at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Assistant Professor specializing in Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, and Chemical Engineering. The selected candidate will lead cutting-edge research in process intensification, reactor modeling, and sustainable energy systems, with a strong emphasis on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), all separation and Conversion processes , particularly adsorption-based processes, heterogenous catalysis and energy conversion technologies. The candidate must demonstrate strong publication and as well proven teaching capabilities in chemical process engineering. The ideal candidate should demonstrate expertise in at least one of the areas below, experience/expertise in multiple areas is an asset: Experience in both process modeling/design and experimental research. Fluid mechanics and transport phenomena Separation and Catalysis Adsorption/absorption processes, process design, and chemical reaction engineering Heat and mass transfer, and thermodynamics Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS Fluent, or similar Programming skills (e.g., Fortran, MATLAB, or equivalent) Demonstrated expertise in both experimental and numerical simulation approaches applied to separation processes. Key Duties and Responsibilities Successful candidates are expected to: Lead cutting-edge research projects focused on multiphase flow reactors, adsorption, chemical engineer and energy systems Develop and implement innovative methodologies for chemical reactor design, simulation, and optimization Conduct both modeling and experimental oriented research Conduct CFD modeling and experimental validation for energy and adsorption systems Secure research funding through grants and industrial partnerships Supervise and mentor graduate students, PhD candidates, and junior researchers Disseminate research results through peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and industrial collaborations Develop and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, chemical reaction engineering, transport phenomena, and Computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Contribute to the strategic planning and research direction of the applied chemistry and engineering research centre (ACER CoE) and the college of chemical sciences and engineering (CCSE) Publish impactful research findings in high impact peer-reviewed journals. In this role, you will work closely with industry partners to develop and implement WiFi MAC layer firmware and drivers, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in wireless communications. The Telecommunication research area within the School of ECE has an established international reputation in wireless communications and signal processing, comprising five IEEE Fellows, several research fellows, and more than 50 postgraduate students.
