Applications are invited for a joint Post-doctoral Researcher in the Faculty of Social Sciences (FOSS) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Institute for Social Research (ISR)?at University of Michigan (U of Michigan) (Ref: 532990), to commence as soon as possible, on a temporary term of one year, with the potential for a second year in ISR at U of Michigan.

Background

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Institute for Social Research?are collaborating to foster cutting-edge areas in social sciences research. This joint post-doctoral researcher aims to support the next generation of leading social sciences researchers, by enabling them to develop a range of research skills in different contexts, working with mentors with different disciplinary and substantive expertise in the social sciences. ?

The successful candidate will have the chance to work with leading researchers (mentors) in both FOSS and ISR to develop his/her research ideas and skills for a future career in academia or another research setting. He/She will work at HKU in the first year and is expected to spend the second year at U Michigan. He/She will be required to complete the necessary administration procedures (including recruitment, visa application) for taking up an appointment at U of Michigan, pursuant to relevant terms of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities


	Produce high quality research on the research priorities and clusters of both FOSS (HKU) and ISR (Michigan)
	Support FOSS and ISR colleagues in research dissemination events
	Assist FOSS and ISR colleagues in the preparation of research reports
	Perform other research related duties for FoSS and ISR


Requirements


	a Ph.D. degree in social sciences discipline from a recognized university, awarded within the past three calendar years, or expected to obtain a Ph.D. degree within six months of the application deadline. Documentary proof of qualification may be required
	an outstanding record of research performance, with a research area that aligns with the focus of FOSS (HKU) and ISR (Michigan)

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a comprehensive interdisciplinary research programme

This project focuses on the application of digital health technology to study the contribution of sleep and circadian disturbance to brain function, neuropsychiatric symptoms and behaviour in people living with dementia.

The successful candidate will work across a variety of tasks and research methods to evaluate or develop and implement technology for longitudinal assessment in the home environment.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic technology-oriented researcher with a particular interest in applying their skills do dementia.?

You will hold a PhD in a relevant area such as neuroscience, biomedical engineering, psychology and have excellent coding and data analysis skills.?

You will be highly motivated, collaborative, interested in technology and interdisciplinary research and willing to contribute to all aspects of the research project, from methodology development, data acquisition to data analysis.?

We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join the research team on the?DAEDALUS?project, an innovative proof-of-concept study exploring the use of drone-delivered defibrillators during out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in an exciting NIHR-funded study that brings together cutting-edge technology, emergency care, and public health. (This is a part time, fixed term contract up to Jan 2027).

You will be working in a vibrant research environment alongside clinicians, academics, and operational experts. Your contributions will help shape the future of emergency medical response in the UK.

Key responsibilities include:


	Supporting the design, implementation and evaluation of real-world simulations testing the use of drones to deliver defibrillators.
	Collecting and analysing qualitative and/or quantitative data across multiple work packages.
	Working closely with 999 call handlers, drone operators, public contributors, and emergency service stakeholders.
	Assisting with dissemination of findings through presentations, reports, academic papers, and public engagement activities.
	Supporting public and patient involvement (PPI) and helping ensure that our research reflects real-world user perspectives.
	Collaborating with the project team and contributing to the development of operational protocols and communication systems for drone integration into 999 services.


About you

We are looking for someone who:


	Has experience in applied health, social care or emergency services research.
	Can plan and carry out data collection using qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
	Is confident working with a range of stakeholders, including members of the public, emergency services staff, and industry collaborators.
