The State University of Jakarta, known locally as Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), has a history that dates back to May 1964 when it was established as IKIP Jakarta (Institute of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences). It became a full-fledged university in August 1999, following a presidential decree, and has since expanded its academic offerings beyond education to include a wide range of disciplines.
Located in East Jakarta, the university operates across four campuses around the city: Rawamangun (Campus A), Pemuda (Campus B), Halimun (Campus D), and Setiabudi (Campus E).
The university is comprised of eight faculties: Faculty of Education Sciences, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Sports Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business, and the Faculty of Psychological Education. Within each faculty are different departments offering a range of degree programmes
There is also the Postgraduate Programme (Sekolah Pascasarjana) which consists of both master’s and doctoral level studies across a range of subject areas including education, linguistics, management science, and educational research.
