Universidade Federal de Jatai is a higher education institution located in the Brazilian city of Jatai. It has its roots with the Federal University of Goias established in 1980, but gained its current name in 2018. There are around 3,000 undergraduate students admitted at one time, across the university’s two campuses: Riachuelo and Jatoba. There are four main general areas of study at the university are agrarian, biology and health, sciences, and human studies. Across these areas, a range of degree programmes can be taken, ranging from chemistry to literature, pedagogy to animal science, forest engineering to medicine. The city of Jatai is known for its agricultural production of goods including soybeans and rice, as well as poultry and cattle. There are several multinational companies located in the city as a result, including Nestle, Cosan and ADM. There are three universities in the city.

A unique opportunity for an individual to join as a Laboratory Technician in the Veterinary Medicine School at the University of Surrey, responsible for the technical preparation of UG veterinary Medicine classes, safe use and maintenance of the teaching Laboratories within the School of Veterinary Medicine, ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-supported teaching environment. You’ll contribute to laboratory operations, working with the Senior Technician to provide skilled technical support is available to assist UG students and academic staff with practical teaching classes while maintaining compliance with Health & Safety regulations. Role & Responsibilities You’ll be working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing laboratory consumables and equipment, ensuring availability and safe functionality. You will directly support teaching activities by providing inductions for new teaching staff, training on specific equipment, and hands-on assistance as required, working collaboratively with your line manager to maintain high standards of research support. Key responsibilities include: Preparation and Delivery of Teaching Support  Prepare materials for undergraduate and postgraduate practical classes and provide technical support throughout. Work closely with the Senior Teaching Technician to ensure sessions are appropriately serviced and that all equipment is functioning correctly. Procurement and Experimental Design Support  Liaise with academic and technical staff to source materials and support the design of experimental work. This includes ordering and stock control of consumables. Technical Training and Guidance  Provide technical advice, training, and assistance to staff and students in the application of laboratory techniques and the use of equipment, including specialised methods. Day-to-Day Laboratory Support  Assist with the daily operation of teaching laboratories and associated areas. This may include supporting activities in the Research labs and Clinical Skills Laboratory (CSL), including work with live companion animals where required. Health and Safety Compliance  Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, including electrical safety testing, CoSHH compliance, and the correct disposal of waste. Outreach and Engagement Activities  Participate in demonstrations, workshops, and events such as Open Days, Applicant Days, and Widening Participation initiatives. What’s in it for you? We educate bachelor’s students in chemical engineering, master’s students in chemistry and materials science, and doctoral students in technology. Our research themes include, among other things, the utilization of renewable energy and the development of various functional materials and molecules. Our teaching staff includes 15 professors and 11 lecturers, and in total more than 100 people work in our department. We are now seeking a fixed-term, three-year Academic Coordinator to support the advancement of the strategic objectives of the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science. The position focuses particularly on coordinating and supporting the preparation of large, nationally significant research projects, both internally and in collaboration with our partners. The emphasis of your work may shift according to the strategic needs of the department. Your key responsibilities include, among others: Coordinating and supporting the preparation of major, strategic funding applications together with the professors active in the area. The role includes internal coordination within Aalto, building networks with stakeholders, and providing practical support for preparing project proposals for funding instruments of, e.g., Business Finland and the Research Council of Finland. Coordinating steering and working groups for large projects and providing other administrative support as required by the department and the school. Supporting the department’s professors by, for example, advancing strategic networking with key stakeholders and existing ecosystems. General coordination supporting the research activities of the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science and supporting the department’s leadership. Collaborating with Aalto’s and our school’s service staff in the preparation, implementation, and reporting of strategic projects, as well as enhancing their visibility. Your skills You will succeed in this role if you have experience in preparing and coordinating large project entities, collaborating with academic and industrial partners, or other relevant tasks in, for example, a university or another expert organization. You will work in an international community with researchers and various stakeholders, both face-to-face and via digital channels, so excellent collaboration, negotiation, and interaction skills will equip you well for success. Your working style is systematic, self-directed, and thorough. You tackle even challenging tasks with determination and take responsibility for driving your areas forward and for completing your tasks on time. Requirements: A doctoral degree, primarily in chemistry or materials science, or alternatively in another field of natural sciences or engineering. Excellent oral and written English skills. Finnish language skills are considered an asset. Good collaboration, negotiation, and communication skills. Previous experience with the application practices of both Finnish and European Union research funding schemes, coordinating research collaboration especially with industrial partners, and project administration will be considered an advantage. Dr Jonathan West is Associate Professor in Biomedical Microfluidics. Research is focussed on clinical translation and technology commercialisation to benefit patient care. Jonathan has patented a microfluidic method for understanding platelet activity with potential to predict thrombosis risk and associated heart attack and stroke risk.
