Job Description


	This position is for School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS).
	Design scenario modeling methods for ADS testing.
	Design algorithms for critical scenarios generation;
	Develop methods for failure analysis and root cause analysis of critical scenarios;
	Develop methods to mitigate failures and improve ADS safety;
	Investigate robust motion planning for ADSs that can tolerate module failures in ADSs.
	Write research papers.
	Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


	Minimum PhD degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines with particular focus on Computer Science.
	Minimum 3 years of relevant research experience in AI security, Autonomous Driving System testing.
	High-quality publications in top-tier software engineering/security/AI journals or conferences.
	Proficiency in programming software/languages such as Python and Pytorch will be positively considered/ is required.
	Proven track record and professional experience in ADS testing, AI testing and software anlysis.
	Demonstrated experience and know-how on testing and repair AI systems, particular on ADS systems.
	Excellent working knowledge of machine learning, trustworthy AI and software testing.
	Technical skills in ADS testing, software testing and bug fixes.
	Ability to break down complex problems and design effective solutions.
	Innovating new approaches and thinking outside the box.
	Applicants with research publications in AI security, software engineering and cybersecurity area will be advantageous.
	Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small, agile academic research team is essential.
	Self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaboratively with team members.

About the area

The Astrophotonics Program brings together researchers from astronomy, physics and engineering to design, build and test advanced photonic technologies with applications in radio astronomy, optical astronomy, space science, quantum technologies and national security. The group is internationally recognised for its expertise in the long-distance transfer of stabilised photonic timing and communication signals over optical fibre and free-space laser links.

Supported by significant ongoing investment from the Western Australian Government and the Joint Venture Universities, this is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving research environment and help define the next generation of photonic technologies.

About the opportunity


	Leading internationally recognised research programs and delivering high-impact research outcomes.
	Securing competitive research funding from national and international funding agencies, industry and government partners.
	Supervising and mentoring Masters, PhD and early-career researchers and fostering an inclusive, collaborative team culture.
	Providing strategic leadership, program management and reporting across the Astrophotonics research portfolio.
	Representing ICRAR and UWA through professional associations, conferences, industry engagement and stakeholder partnerships.
	Building strong interdisciplinary collaborations across academia, government and industry to increase research impact and translation.


About you 


	A PhD in physics, astronomy, engineering or another relevant discipline, with an internationally recognised research profile and an outstanding publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals.
	Proven success in attracting competitive research funding and developing sustainable research collaborations across academia, government and industry.
	Significant experience leading research teams and supervising higher degree research (HDR) students and early-career researchers to successful outcomes.
	Expertise in several of the following areas: radio astronomy instrumentation, free-space optical laser communications (terrestrial and/or space applications), and quantum technologies.
	Outstanding leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, collaboration and research excellence.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in supporting the spiritual, pastoral, faith and belief needs of our diverse University community. Working closely with the Principal Chaplain, you will help shape and deliver an inclusive and welcoming chaplaincy service that contributes positively to student wellbeing, belonging, community cohesion and personal development.

You will support the leadership and coordination of a diverse network of volunteer chaplains and faith representatives, helping to ensure the delivery of high-quality pastoral support for students and staff. The role includes providing direct pastoral support to students and staff, including responding sensitively to complex situations such as crisis, bereavement and significant life events. As Religious Life and Belief Lead, you will support the operational management and development of the Religious Life & Belief service, contribute to service evaluation and reporting, and deputise for the Principal Chaplain during periods of planned or unplanned absence.

About you

You will be an experienced pastoral practitioner, chaplain, faith leader or community professional with a strong commitment to supporting people from all faith backgrounds and none. We welcome applications from all faiths groups and none.

You will have significant experience of pastoral care, gained within higher education, healthcare, the voluntary sector, a faith community or a similarly complex environment. You will be comfortable working with people facing personal challenges and able to demonstrate empathy, professional judgement and emotional resilience.
