Founded in 1772, Salem College is the oldest educational institution in the United States in continuous operation as well as being the oldest female institution in the Southern United States.
It was established to encourage equal educational opportunities for women and men and during its early years the Single Sisters, who were unmarried women from the Moravian community, ran the school. It was also among the first schools accept students regardless of colour and social standing, and in 1785 the first African American student enrolled.
Although it is officially still a womenâs college, men over 23-years-old are admitted into the Continuing Education program.
Today this private womenâs liberal arts college is located in the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and has one of the most diverse student bodies in the local area.
Salem College offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs and shares its campus with Salem Academy, a residential high school for girls. Students tend to live off-campus with their families or in one of the eight residence halls on campus.
The college sports teams are known as the Spirits and compete in the Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC). In 2007 the basketball team won the regional championship and in 2008 the soccer team matched this accomplishment.
Salem College alumnae includes actress Celia Weston, former First Lady Sarah Childress Polk, whose husband was the United Statesâ eleventh President James Polk, and Sarah Covington Fulcher, who holds the record for the longest continuous solo run.

Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to design, develop and evaluate schemes for quantum key distribution networks and systems. Design, develop and evaluate solutions given problem statements in key generation and relaying across multiple hops in quantum key distribution (QKD) networks. Demonstrate functionality of solutions. Job Requirements: Have relevant knowledge in the areas of quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols, e.g., BB84, E91, MDI, TF, etc. If there is no prior experience, it is acceptable if the candidate can self-learn the knowledge within a short time (e.g., 1 month). Have a degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent. Possessing a Masterâs or PhD degree will be advantageous. Experience in designing, developing and evaluating solutions for a given problem statement using simulation tools, such as Matlab, Python, etc., and documenting and publishing the works in technical reports or papers. Knowledge of network placement optimization for various topologies, e.g., Erdos-Renyi random network, scale-free, small world, etc, will be advantageous. key Competencies: Understand existing quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols, networks and systems. Able to perform resource placement optimization in computer/communication networks. Proficient in technical writing and analytical skills. Show strong initiative and take ownership of work.
