Quincy University (QU) is a Catholic university based in Quincy in Illinois. With roots dating back to 1860, it was initially formed as St. Francis Solanus College, providing training for young Franciscan priests. In 1932, women were admitted to the college for the first time, yet it wasn’t until 1993, that the college was renamed Quincy University.
Quincy University is organised into four separate colleges and two schools, which are: Behavioural & Social Sciences, Fine Arts & Communication, Humanities, Science and Technology, Business and Education.Â
Within the separate divisions, there are 32 subject areas on offer to study. Some of the most popular courses include: political science, criminal justice, women’s gender studies, theatre studies, sports management and marketing.
Moreover, through a partnership with The Learning House, Quincy University now offers an online bachelor degree in human services, which allows for distance learning.
Recent research suggests that some 90 per cent of all Quincy University graduates are working in a related field or enrolled in a graduate programme within six months of graduation.
There are more than 40 clubs and organisations on campus which enable to students to get involved in a variety of aspects, which include: the student newspaper, vocal and instrumental groups, drama clubs, service and mission trip groups, professional associations, and several honour societies.
Athletic teams at Quincy University participate as a member of NCAA Division II and have been a part of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) for most sports since the 1995. Sports teams on offer include: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and tennis.Â
Notable alumni include Josh Kinney, an American professional baseball pitcher, Glenn Jacobs – aka Kane – an American professional wrestler, insurer, and actor, and Rick Hummel, an American author and sports columnist best known for his work for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
