Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or a related discipline, with strong sense of responsibility and problem-solving skills, effective communication skills (both written and oral English), good interpersonal skills, and ability to work as an effective member of a team. Applicants with knowledge of ageing and mental health in later life, experience in programme evaluation and advanced statistics, and/or a strong track publication record will have an advantage. The appointee will be working closely with multidisciplinary scholars and a research team on an evaluation study examining the impact of technology use on mental health in later life. The appointee will be responsible for data collection, data management and analysis, preparation of research reports and high-quality manuscripts, the development of proposals and research design, the presentation of research findings at local and international conferences, the supervision of junior research staff in academic and research activities, and other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator. Dr Jonathan West is Associate Professor in Biomedical Microfluidics. Research is focussed on clinical translation and technology commercialisation to benefit patient care. Jonathan has patented a microfluidic method for understanding platelet activity with potential to predict thrombosis risk and associated heart attack and stroke risk. The Role The role involves using an advanced microfluidic technology to monitor the platelets of patients with sepsis or severe respiratory infection. The research entails working with our partners at University Hospital Southampton and commercial partners providing comprehensive flow cytometry data sets to benchmark the microfluidic technology.
