Established in 1891, Massachusetts Maritime Academy is a public higher level institution focusing on sea and environmental engineering, management and business.
It offers four-year undergraduate courses in subjects including emergency management, energy systems engineering, facilities engineering, international maritime business, marine engineering, marine transportation and environmental protection. There are also graduate courses in emergency management and facilities management.
The university campus is situated on Cape Cod, by the beautiful Cape Cod Canal. All residential students are members of the Regiment of Cadets, which means they do regimental training, a physical fitness programme and military drill. Student clubs exist - among other things - for hockey, yoga, semper fi, amateur radio and golf. In terms of athletics, you can choose to become part of baseball, crew, cross-country, football, lacrosse, sailing, soccer, track and field, softball and volleyball teams competing in NCAA and ECAC Division III. About 40 per cent of cadets are engaged in competitive sports at MMA.
Notable alumni include Andrew E Gibson, former US secretary of commerce for maritime affairs; Christine Griffin, a lawyer and assistant secretary for disability policies and programs for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services; and merchant mariner and author Richard Phillips.

Your personal sphere of influence: We are seeking a Communication Expert to further develop the Vienna Centre for Advanced Studies’ (ViCAS) visibility and impact. In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of ViCAS’s communication activities in close coordination with the University of Vienna’s Communication Unit. You will develop and implement a communication strategy that aligns with ViCAS’s mission and engages local and global academic communities. You will shape narratives about our fellowship programmes, the academic work of its fellows, and events suitable to different audiences, enhancing our national and international profile and influence both within and beyond academia. Your future tasks: Independent development, coordination, and implementation of communication strategies and campaigns covering all aspects of ViCAS, involving numerous stakeholders. Translate complex research into engaging content for blogs, press releases, and social media, using state-of-the-art communication practices. Creation and delivery of multimedia content for internal and external communication channels. This role will involve designing custom test fixtures, conducting practical laboratory work, and performing data analysis to create a robust and reliable testing protocol. Key Responsbilities: Conduct a comprehensive literature review on food rheology, texture analysis, particle analysis, image analysis and the IDDSI framework. Design and execute experiments to develop new instrumental texture analysis methods suitable for IDDSI Level 5 foods. Validate new methods against existing standards and a sensory panel to ensure accuracy and clinical relevance. Collect, analyze, and interpret data from instrumental and sensory evaluations. Document all experimental procedures, findings, and analyses in technical reports and prepare presentations to industry stakeholders and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Collaborate with a research team, including food scientists, clinicians, and engineers, to ensure the developed methods are practical and clinically relevant. Job Requirements: A degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. in a related research field is advantageous. Experience with instrumental texture, image analysis and particle sizing techniques (e.g., texture analyzers, universal testing machines) is highly desirable.
