The University of Lviv is the oldest institution of higher learning in present-day Ukraine, dating back to 1661, when its first royal charter was granted by King John II Casimir of Poland. Throughout its history, the university has undergone various transformations, suspensions and name changes as a result of the geopolitical complexities of the region. It is located in the historic city of Lviv, in Western Ukraine.  
The declaration of Ukraine's independence in 1991 brought significant changes to the university's life. New faculties and departments were established to meet evolving requirements, and new units for teaching and research were created.    
The university offers a range of faculties, including applied mathematics and informatics, international relations, biology, journalism, chemistry, law, economics, mechanics and mathematics, electronics, philology, foreign languages, philosophy, geography, physics, geology, history and preuniversity training, along with several departments for specialised studies.

The role

This post is part of a five-year project “SignGPT” which will build tools to allow spoken language to be automatically translated into photo-realistic sign language and video of sign language to be translated into spoken language. This project is a collaboration between the University of Surrey (Prof Bowden), the University of Oxford (Prof Zisserman) and UCL (Prof Cormier and Woll). This is a fixed term contract up to Sept 2026.

About you

The successful applicant should have a PhD in a related area with a strong track record of publishing high quality research. Previous experience of sign language recognition and translation would be advantageous would experience of supervising research. They should have good analytical and programming skills and experience of computer vision and machine learning. Previous experience of real time systems development in Python, OpenCV, PyTorch and deep learning are essential. Experience of C/C++/C#, TensorFlow would be beneficial. Applicants are expected to be proactive, to support other researchers and to be self-motivated.

About you

	A PhD or Professional Doctorate in Education or related field, and an appropriate teaching qualification in secondary education, and relevant state or territory teacher registration in Australia
	Demonstrate experience in initial teacher education, particularly in professional experience, work integrated learning, and leadership in curriculum design and evaluation
	Proven ability to design, implement and assess innovative university-level curricula and teaching resources that enhance student learning and engagement
	A strong research track record, including competitive grant success, HDR supervision, and publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
	Active engagement in professional, community or sector collaborations, including placement partnerships, staff development, and relevant professional or research networks


Salary and benefits

The State Government of South Australia, CSIRO and the University of Adelaide’s Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) are actively interested in advancing leading research and development of AI).

The now established?Responsible AI Research (RAIR) Centre will leverage AIML and CSIRO Data61s existing expertise to focus on the development of cross-cutting responsible AI research and address fundamental responsible AI problems at a sufficient scale for national and international impact.?

We are seeking motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Fellows B to undertake fundamental machine learning research for projects aligned to one of more of the following themes:


	Theme 1: Tackling misinformation, working on attribution and integrity for generative AI.?
	Theme 2: Safe AI in the Real world, working on foundational reasoning for tool use and physical interactions.
	Theme 3: Diverse AI, working on AI systems for safety and diversity.?
	Theme 4: AI that can explain its actions working on causal AI for a changing world.


The AIML at the University of Adelaide is the largest computer vision and machine learning research group in Australia with over 180 members including academics, research staff and students. The AIML works on a mixture of fundamental and commercially orientated research projects in computer vision and machine learning.

To be successful you will need:


	A PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or other Machine Learning-related field.
	Programming experience in python, C++ or other relevant language and experience in deep neural networks
	Strong mathematical capability, especially for Theme 1, with applicants holding an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in mathematics, strongly encouraged to apply.
	Experience and demonstratable knowledge in deep learning and one or more of the following: transformer networks, implicit neural functions, graph neural networks and/or probabilistic graphical models; and causal inference.
	An outstanding publication record in top tier machine learning and/or computer vision conferences or journals, commensurate with experience and opportunity.
	A strong work ethic, and the ability to work well independently, and as a member of a broader team, including with industrial, educational and community partners.
	Fluency in written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience.
	Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, with applications from traditionally under-represented groups within the Responsible AI community encouraged to apply, as well as those who may have experienced more unusual educational and/or career pathway, prior to completing their PhD.

The University is seeking applications for an ARC Grant Funded Researcher for a 2 year fixed term appointment.

The specific topic area of this post is the development of new light-based and label-free imaging technologies and their translation to biological research or industry.

The successful applicant will play a leading role in developing and implementing classical concepts for imaging within a vibrant team.

The work is based within the Centre of Light for Life. The Centre aims to build upon the area of photonics and its applications in other multidisciplinary fields. The imaging will be conducted with a range of biological samples, such as mouse embryos, with availability of other cells via our collaborators (e.g. malaria parasites, neuronal cells, and other human cell cultures). The project will use novel photonics and address real-world challenges through the development of non-invasive biomedical imaging.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake both experimental work and numerical studies and will be expected to liaise with key institutes such as the Institute of Photonics and Advanced Sensing and biologists in the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and School of Biological Sciences.

To be successful you will need:


	A PhD in Optics/ Photonics/ Physics and/or Microscopy, with a strong focus on light-sheet and multiphoton microscopy.
	Experience in one of more of: advanced optical imaging; classical imaging; multiphoton imaging; the development and application of numerical methods of deep learning or multivariate analysis.
	Interdisciplinary experience with projects that overlap across multiple fields.
	The ability to plan and manage own research activity and conduct relevant individual and collaborative research projects.
	Good oral communication, skills in journal and conference paper writing.
