LAB University of Applied Sciences is located in the Finnish Lakeland and was established in 2020 following the merger of Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. It is part of the LUT Universities higher education community, alongside LUT University.

The university operates across campuses in Lahti and Lappeenranta, as well as an E-campus for online study. The Lahti campus is home to the Lahti Institute of Design, a well-known design education institution in the Nordic region, dating back to the early 1900s. The Lappeenranta campus is shared with LUT University and forms part of one of the largest higher education hubs in southeastern Finland.

LAB offers a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s programmes across five main fields: business, design and fine arts, health care and social services, technology, and tourism and hospitality. English-taught degree programmes across several disciplines are also available.

 A defining feature of study at LAB is its applied learning model, where work placements, industry projects, and employer collaboration are integrated into degree programmes.

Research, development and innovation activity is a core focus of LAB, with key areas including circular economy, sustainable and regenerative growth, multipurpose materials, health and wellbeing service innovation, and design-led innovation. The university also maintains extensive collaboration with industry and public sector partners, supporting applied research and EU-funded projects.

Internationally, LAB maintains a strong global network with over 300 higher education institutions across the globe, supporting Erasmus+ exchanges, double degrees, and joint initiatives.
