Established in 1966 in Kalyanpur, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University was created to reduce academic load on Agra University. It serves students across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
The university offers a wide range of subjects including arts, commerce, science, education, law, management, medicine, Ayurvedic and Unani studies, engineering, technology, agriculture, biotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, health studies and performing arts. Vocational and job-oriented courses such as BTech, MBA and BEd have been added since the 1990s.
A 2021 restructure introduced specialised schools in languages, science, law, agriculture and biotechnology. The university supports initiatives aligned with India鈥檚 New Education Policy 2020, Sustainable Development Goals and Atma Nirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
The 264-acre campus includes administrative buildings, residences, guest houses and hostels. Constituent institutions include GSVM Medical College, Nursing College and the University Institute of Engineering and Technology.
