Founded in 1993, Ardabil University of Medical Sciences is a public medical university in the capital of Ardabil province, in north-western Iran near the border with Azerbaijan.?
The university’s bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery (MBBS) course meets international standards, and its qualifications are recognised internationally.
The university is organised into six faculties, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and midwifery, and health.
Courses on offer include: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, forensic medicine, community medicine, clinical medicine, medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, radiology and allied health sciences.
To accommodate international students, the language of instruction in many of the courses is English.

????The position is based within the Department of Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology at King's College London, which is part of the School of Life Course and Population Sciences within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. The department is dedicated to studying twins and other longitudinal cohorts to elucidate the genetic and environmental determinants of health and disease. Our comprehensive research portfolio includes studies and analyses of genetics, epigenetics, and the influence of environmental factors - such as lifestyle and diet - on complex diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular conditions, diabetes and osteoporosis. Additionally, the department explores the ageing process and the pivotal role of the microbiome in health, making significant contributions to the fields of genetic epidemiology and public health. The department also benefits from strong collaborative partnerships at KCL, and nationally and internationally, enhancing our research impact and reach.

About the role

We are seeking an energetic and dynamic communicator with a passion for science communication and engagement. The research programme at the Department is expanding and we are looking for someone to lead on research communications and engagement across multiple new and existing studies. You will lead the development and delivery of external communications across the Department of Twin Research. The role will deliver inclusive strategies to engage underrepresented groups and enhance participant recruitment and experience, while also raising the profile of our resources, researchers and study findings with the public and scientific community.?

You will be a strong content creator with experience in multi-channel communication campaigns. You will design and deliver communications across?press, newsletters and websites to events, videos and social media. The post also involves developing clear participant communications, supporting recruitment and retention, and helping shape public engagement activities.?

A key part of the role will be working closely with our Volunteer Advisory Panel (VAP) and through patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) activity, ensuring participant voices are represented and help guide our engagement strategies.??

Alongside this, you’ll work with colleagues across King’s, NHS partners, advisory groups and community organisations to coordinate activities and build networks. You’ll also line manage the Communications and Engagement Officer and contribute to embedding good practice across the team.?

This is a full time maternity cover post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a ?fixed term? contract for 31 December 2026 or until the return of the substantive post holder.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	?Educated to degree level in a relevant area?
	?Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience with developing campaigns to engage participants in health research?
	?Strong presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage the public, participants, partners and stakeholders at all levels, including across multiple studies and affiliated centres?
	?Experience in a professional communications and engagement role within research, health or science, including Patient and Public Involvement and preparing sensitive participant-facing communications?
	?Thorough knowledge of a broad range of communications disciplines, including content creation, (eg. websites, events, marketing, social media, podcasts, video, publications) internal communications, digital, social media and public relations, demonstrating excellent IT and digital skills, databases, social media, and web/digital content management?
	?Ability to comprehend complex situations quickly, providing creative solutions to ensure results are achieved and objectives are met with tactful interpersonal skills?
	?Ability to plan, organise and deliver multimedia outputs such as videos, webinars and online resources in a timely manner, aligned with project needs?

Position Summary:

The UM6P Vanguard Center & UM6P’s School of Applied Sciences & Engineering are recruiting a Scientist in Cyber-Physical Systems and Digital Twins?to lead technology-driven projects within the?Wicked Problems (WiP)?learning framework. This role bridges physical systems and their digital counterparts, focusing on the design, simulation, and real-time control of interconnected smart systems in domains such as manufacturing, energy, mobility, health, and agriculture.

Key Responsibilities:


	Mentor student teams in the design and implementation of cyber-physical systems (CPS) integrating sensors, actuators, control algorithms, and embedded systems.
	Guide the development and deployment of digital twins for real-world processes and infrastructures (e.g., factories, greenhouses, robotics platforms).
	Support modeling, simulation, and data-driven optimization using tools such as ROS, Unity, Modelica, Simulink, and SCADA platforms.
	Collaborate with faculty and industrial partners to create prototyping kits, demonstrators, and hybrid (hardware-in-the-loop) systems for education and applied research.
	Ensure integration with operational technologies (OT) such as edge computing, PLCs, industrial protocols (OPC-UA, Modbus), and digital platforms.
	Co-author technical reports and academic publications emerging from student-led and co-supervised projects.
	Publish research and co-author student-led publications resulting from WiP investigations.
	Contribute to applied research motivated by the WiP investigations.


Required Qualifications:


	Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Robotics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
	Proven experience with cyber-physical systems design, real-time control, and digital twin development.
	Proficiency in C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, and relevant CPS software frameworks (e.g., ROS, Unity, SCADA).
	Understanding of embedded systems, communication protocols, and systems integration.
	Strong interest in student mentorship and interdisciplinary, applied learning environments.


Desirable Qualifications (at least two of the following):


	Experience with edge/cloud computing platforms for industrial or IoT-based systems.
	Familiarity with simulation-to-hardware pipelines, predictive maintenance, or hybrid modeling.
	Background in smart agriculture, mobile robotics, or automated manufacturing systems.

The TOUR (Transforming cancer OUtcomes through Research) team aims to use science to improve healthcare outcomes by translating oncology research into clinical practice. TOUR is led by Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck, and comprises a team of quantitative and qualitative researchers, clinicians, students, research nurses, trial coordinators, and database managers who are active across the field of translational oncology research.?

Prof Van Hemelrijck also leads the Guy’s Cancer Real World Evidence (RWE) Programme with Dr Anne Rigg from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The programme aims to amplify Guy’s Cancer RWE data science capability and facilitate addressing answering challenging cancer research questions. The overall aim of Guy’s Cancer RWE Programme is to drive world class patient centred research.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate (Grade 6) with expertise in Real World Evidence (RWE) to join the TOUR team within the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge cancer epidemiology research, with a particular focus on the analysis of large-scale real-world datasets.

The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck and collaborators across clinical and academic teams – including King’s Health Partners and the South East London Cancer Alliance. They will be responsible for designing and conducting epidemiological studies using hospital data, national and international registries, and biobank resources such as the UK Biobank. The post holder will play a key role in managing and analysing complex datasets to generate insights that inform clinical practice and health policy.

This position is ideally suited for someone with a PhD in Cancer Epidemiology or a related field (or near completion), who has a strong background in RWD analyses and big data methodologies. The role will involve collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, contribution to peer-reviewed publications, and support for grant applications.

This is a full-time post, and you will be offered an a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027.

About You

You will hold a PhD in Cancer Epidemiology or a closely related field or be in the final stages of completing your doctoral thesis. You will have demonstrable experience in conducting Real World Data (RWD) analyses and working with large-scale datasets, including hospital records, national and international registries, and biobank resources such as the UK Biobank.?

You will be confident in applying advanced statistical methods to complex datasets and have a strong understanding of data governance and confidentiality in health research. Your ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams will be essential, as will your communication skills for presenting findings and contributing to publications and funding proposals.

Essential criteria:?


	PhD in Cancer Epidemiology or related field (or near completion)
	Proven experience in RWD analyses and big data methodologies
	Expertise in handling hospital data, registry data, and databases like the UK Biobank

The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses two Innovation Centres – Rapid Product Innovation and Development (RaPID) Centre and SIT-Poly Innovation Centre of Excellence (SPICE) Centre. The RaPID Centre aims to guide businesses in their innovation and value creation activities through rapid product development and sample production while the SPICE Centre aims to support local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in their technology-driven transformation, innovation and talent development initiatives.

These Innovation Centres house a dedicated pool of Professional Officers who come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. Professional Officers work with industry partners to co-create commercially viable solutions. They deliver on projects that help industries and businesses to move up the innovation value chain. While working on these projects, Professional Officers will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands. The success of these initiatives will bring about deeper collaboration with key industry stakeholders that will translate the industry engagement into more innovation projects with SIT.
