Longer articles appear in our main news site's in depth聽section, both online and in print.听We look for lively essays about higher education policy and practice, as well as academic life more generally.听The length of each feature is decided by the features editor, but, as a rough guide, they are usually 1,500-2,500 words. Note that we may suggest editing down a longer piece to opinion length if we think it would work better that way.听
Opinion articles聽set out a concise argument on a topical issue related to higher education or academic life. Published opinion articles are around 750 - 1000 words long, but we are happy to edit down longer submissions when necessary. Please avoid subheadings, bullet points and footnotes; references should be hyperlinked to.听
If you have an idea for an opinion or feature article, please email a short summary of your proposal to聽THE.Submissions@timeshighereducation.com. We will also consider completed articles.听
If your feature or opinion article is accepted for publication, we will work with you to edit it and you will have final approval of the copy.
