The Department at the University of Vienna is the largest academic center covering all fields relating to the German language and German-language literatures. The core areas are Modern German Literature, Medieval German Language and Literature, Germanic Linguistics, German as a Foreign and Second Language, and German Teaching Methodology.�� In addition, the areas of Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Media Theory, Literary Theory, and Literature for Children and Young Adults are well established. More than 5000 students are enrolled.

As a university assistant post doc, you will have the opportunity to work at one of the largest departments of German Philology worldwide consisting of an inspiring group of people dedicated to a manifold range of research and academic teaching.

The advertised professorship is affiliated with the field of Modern German Literature, with a particular focus on Austrian Literature. Accordingly, in addition to an outstanding doctoral degree in literary studies, candidates are expected to have a Habilitation project situated within the scope of this professorial field.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You build up an independent research profile in the field of Modern German Literature.
	You are involved in research projects and scientific studies.
	You publish internationally and give lectures.
	You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
	You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation.
	You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You supervise your students.
	You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
	You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

	Completed doctoral/PhD studies in Modern German Literature
	An innovative habilitation project, documented in a research proposal
	Expertise in the following areas: 18th-century German-language literature in an international context; Austrian literary and cultural history
	Methodological expertise in literary theory and/or sociology of literature
	Publications in renowned, discipline-relevant outlets (peer-reviewed where appropriate according to disciplinary standards)
	Experience in acquiring and managing externally funded research projects
	Experience of international mobility or professional experience abroad

Why Your Role Matters

The School of Science is one of six schools within UNSW Canberra and comprises the disciplines of Aviation, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics and Oceanography.

We are seeking a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Stratospheric Physics to join our team.

In this role, you will also serve as Station Director of the Balloon Launching Station in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, working closely with stakeholders from CSIRO, NASA and other international space agencies. Stratospheric balloon flights are conducted periodically from the site.

This position combines research and teaching responsibilities. You will contribute to curriculum development and delivery while building and maintaining a strong research portfolio. The role includes leading publications, supervising students, securing research funding and fostering collaborations that support excellence in both teaching and research.

Skills and Experience


	A PhD in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience.
	Demonstrated expertise in atmospheric physics, electronics and/or stratospheric ballooning.
	A proven commitment to maintaining contemporary disciplinary knowledge and developments.
	The ability to contribute to and enhance the School's teaching and research activities.
	Experience managing large-scale projects, including contract negotiations, tender evaluations, risk management and budget planning.


Associate Professor (Level D)

In addition to the above, an Associate Professor (Level D) plays a key role in leading and advancing outstanding research at both national and international levels.

The appointees will be expected to:


	teach 1–2 undergraduate courses in the relevant disciplinary area;
	coordinate and deliver undergraduate laboratory teaching and related experiential learning��activities;
	work closely with course teachers to develop and enhance laboratory instructional and��assessment materials, and align laboratory activities with course learning outcomes;
	provide structured academic support for student projects, makerspace activities, student��competition teams, outreach events and admissions-related activities; and
	contribute to laboratory safety, consistency, quality assurance and continuous improvement��across undergraduate laboratory activities.


A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
