In his HE & me interview  (News, 18 January), Richard Barbrook, senior lecturer in the department of politics and international relations at the University of Westminster and a digital democracy and games strategist for the Labour Party, says that he is “using the 1983 [Labour general election] manifesto to think through what it will be like to have a left-wing Labour government”.

This is a manifesto famously referred to by the late Gerald Kaufman MP as “the longest suicide note in history”. Its use does not necessarily inspire confidence in a bright socialist future for Britain.
