Going to your local

It is very depressing if, in order for the UK to save money, the future is for 鈥渕ore people to live at home and study locally or go to university later in life鈥, since part of the transformational process of education is to get students to enter the 鈥渃ountry of the educated鈥, which has no boundaries (鈥Danny Dorling predicts 鈥榣ocal nationalisation鈥 of聽UK universities鈥, News, 26 October).

It often does not matter what subject people study at university, as long as they get away from potentially stifling family or cultural ties, and it is beneficial if students have the opportunity to engage with new ideas and make mistakes free of family interference.

I fear that studying later in life means that the effects of higher education will clearly be delayed.
