In the biographical sketch of Kori Schake, the author of Safe Passage: The Transition from British to American Hegemony ( 鈥淲hen Britannia waived its rule鈥 , Books, 8 February), Matthew Reisz writes that Schake 鈥渨as born in Sonoma, California, 鈥榥ot far from where gold was discovered in 1848鈥欌欌. I just wanted to say how remarkably well I think Schake looks in the photograph accompanying the article for someone who will turn 170 this year.
