This week's award for fast-reacting opportunism goes jointly to Bradford City footballer Chris Waddle, whose instant reaction to seeing Everton's goalkeeper off his line in Saturday's FA Cup tie was to lob him from 40 yards, and to the University of Bradford public relations unit who put out a press release announcing that Waddle was signed in their Great Hall. If the university gets fire-bombed by angry scousers, they will know who to blame.
