Risky Americans beat Britons at start-ups

Americans are much more pro-active entrepreneurs than the British, research for the Economic and Social Research Council has found. Americans show a greater willingness to put work before family and have a different attitude to risk, the research by Brian Ashcroft at Strathclyde University found. In Britain, a desire for job security limits people's desire to start their own businesses.
