The promotion of physical activity through structured education with differing levels of ongoing support for those with pre-diabetes (PROPELS): randomised controlled trial in a diverse multiethnic community

Lack of exercise is one of the main causes of diabetes, but there is no definitive way to encourage people to be more active. This study's aim is to test alternative versions of intervention within a diverse multiethnic population at high risk of diabetes. The team will recruit 1,308 individuals who will be divided into groups and given different levels of intervention (from a detailed leaflet to an extended information session and follow-up support). The groups will have their activity levels assessed after one and three years. This will help establish how effective each programme is at promoting activity and improving health.
