The Taliban’s War: The Other Side of the Afghan Conflict, 2001-15

This project will employ oral history and work with Afghan field researchers to examine how the Taliban have planned, fought and experienced the war in Afghanistan since 2001. It will examine the resilience of Taliban insurgency and assess the prospects for reconciliation after the withdrawal of Western combat forces at the end of this year. It is based on a pilot study of the war and builds on talks by Theo Farrell and Michael Semple with senior Taliban figures that explored Taliban perspectives on reconciliation.
