Good news for Lancashire - the 2002 Good Pub Guide has found that it offers the cheapest beer in the land. Beer costs an average 拢1.68 in Lancashire, 24p below the national average. At the University of Lancaster's student union, beer is 拢1.60 a pint, below the average cost for the county but more than the bars in town, which offer beer at 拢1 a pint. Trish McGrath, president of the student union, said:
"Maybe the university should use cheap beer as a recruitment tool."
