Graduates shoulder an average debt of 拢12,000 by the time they leave university, according to a survey by NatWest bank.
NatWest said that, thanks to rising student loans and overdrafts, the average graduate debt had increased fourfold in the past five years. The Government disputed the bank's figures and said that "independent and reliable" research had put average graduate debt at 拢8,666.
