The University of California, Berkeley has announced that it will accept graduates from the online institution the University of the People听(UoPeople), following a new partnership agreement.
Berkeley said that it will take on qualified, top-performing听graduates from UoPeople's听associate degree programme who wish to complete a bachelor鈥檚 degree at the university.
UoPeople听is a non-profit tuition-free online university, aimed at disadvantaged students from around the world and headquartered in California. In 2014, it gained accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council in the US.
Berkeley chancellor Nicholas Dirks said that UoPeople鈥檚 mission is 鈥渃losely aligned with the mission of Berkeley, to open the gates to a quality higher education to every deserving student 鈥 with priority given to residents of California鈥.

UoPeople president听Shai Reshef said that Berkeley鈥檚 partnership is 鈥渢he ultimate endorsement of the value of our degrees and it offers a great opportunity for our students鈥.

鈥淣ow the most accomplished UoPeople students may be able to further pursue their dreams by attending one of the best universities in the world,鈥 he said.
Last month, Mr Reshef told听糖心Vlog听that other universities will emulate his model,听in which tuition is free but students pay $100 (拢70) for each exam they sit.
