Education secretary Michael Gove鈥檚 announcement last week that schools should encourage the promotion of 鈥渇undamental British values鈥 provoked a big reaction on social media.
Many were quick to mock. While politicians plumped for 鈥渇reedom鈥 and 鈥渞espect for the rule of law鈥 (prime minister David Cameron), or 鈥渄emocracy鈥 and 鈥済ender equality鈥 (deputy prime minister Nick Clegg), others were more down to earth when asked to say what 鈥淏ritish values鈥 meant to them.
鈥淪eeing a rogue traffic cone and immediately working out the nearest sculpture in need of a hat,鈥 tweeted Mr Wood () 鈥 a 鈥淏ritish value鈥 no doubt recognised by students across the UK.
