In her response to Craig Brandist鈥檚 analysis of the organisation of many higher education institutions, Liz Morrish has come up with a splendid idea 鈥 three-yearly rotations of departmental heads in the knowledge that what they decide in 2014 will come back to bite them in 2017 (Letters, 5 June).
A more immediate solution to perhaps a slightly different problem would be for senior managers and executive teams to spend one day a month 鈥渙n the shop floor鈥, in the administrative support centres or in an academic school, 鈥渙bserving鈥 in order to see first hand the impact of their policies, strategies and regulations. If it works for business鈥
