Your coverage of the funding allocations ( THES , March 8) showed little appreciation of the harm they will inflict on many new universities.
Removing 拢17 million of collaboration research funding every year will be extremely painful. Average research income for new universities is set to fall by 拢457,000 a year to 拢1.55 million. The average income of old universities will rise by almost 拢1 million a year to 拢22.1 million. It is clear that the government intends to rebuild the binary divide.
