Footballers aged 12 to 14 in Tayside and Fife are being sought by researchers to take part in a project investigating the effects of intensive training on bone growth. Despite football's global popularity, little is known about whether the hard, targeted practice the sport requires is wholly beneficial or can pose risks to growing bodies. Volunteers will visit the Institute of Motion Analysis and Research at the University of Dundee so that their movements can be tracked by the kind of high-tech analysis used to create virtual representations of sporting heroes such as Wayne Rooney in computer games.
