A university centre may be set up in South Yorkshire's Dearne Valley. Staffordshire University is involved in a ?1 million bid to establish the centre, alongside Dearne Valley College and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. Gill Howland, executive pro vice-chancellor, said Staffordshire "has an excellent track record in widening participation and working with further education partners to provide flexible, vocational higher education opportunities for communities that can benefit".
