ELECTRON microscope examination of cartilage could hold the key to understanding arthritis, say researchers at the University of Wales Aberystwyth.

The university's Institute of Biological Sciences has just received a Pounds 47,846 grant to fund a project, led by Iolo ap Gwyn, looking at the microscopic structure of cartilage. Dr Gwyn says that a true understanding of cartilage is crucial to treating problems that can lead to osteoarthritic disabilities.
