Summing up the mild confusion felt by many on beholding the term "staff development" - nobody knows exactly what it is, but at the same time few question that it is a Good Thing - comes the following subversive thought from the Mole column in the University of Sussex bulletin:"This issue will either contain an insert on staff development, or an insert on Car Parking.

. .The Mole suspects that many of the university staff feel that the two issues are closely connected, and that being able to park one's car would constitute quite a significant staff development".
