David Brierley, former general manager of the Royal Shakespeare Company, member of several Arts Council committees and its lottery panel and chairman of the stabilisation committee, has been appointed chairman.

University of Hull

David Soutter, director of finance and corporate affairs at Cheltenham and Gloucester College of ÌÇÐÄVlog, has been appointed director of finance. John Gunn, acting director of finance, will take on the role of deputy director from February 1, 1998.

Nottingham Trent University

K. Bird, former director of the British Council in Bangladesh, has been appointed director of the international office; T. Cobb, former assistant development director at the University of Nottingham, has been appointed development/alumni manager; P. Gallimore, professor and former head of property and construction management at Staffordshire University's business school, is to head the department of surveying; M. Gunn, former professor of mental law at De Montfort University, is to head the academic legal studies department; A. Lovell, former principal lecturer at Nottingham Business School, is to head the accounting department.

Clive Rowland, founder member and former commercial manager and deputy managing director of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology's Ventures Ltd, has been appointed managing director.

Guildford College

Lynne Sedgmore, former vice principal, will take up the vacant post of principal in April 1998: Russell Strutt, head of general education, has been promoted to associate principal (resources).
