Charity patrons can be on the doddery side, but it is a rare charity that will admit this on its headed notepaper. A pioneer in this field is the Humane Research Trust, which first lists its "patrons" (including the actor Richard Briers and the Labour MP David Blunkett) - and then lists its "animate patrons". The latter list is much shorter.
