The Faculty of Medicine and Health is creating a new First Nations Research Support function to strengthen culturally appropriate, ethical and impactful research involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. We are seeking a collaborative and organised First Nations Research Support Officer to support researchers across the Faculty by providing operational and administrative expertise in research ethics, governance, funding and stakeholder engagement. Working alongside the First Nations Research Support Lead and in partnership with the Poche Centre, you will help develop practical resources, coordinate research support activities and contribute to best-practice approaches for First Nations research. Your key responsibilities will be to: As the First Nations Research Support Officer, you will: support researchers with First Nations research ethics processes and funding opportunities provide advice on Indigenous research governance and compliance requirements coordinate stakeholder meetings, communications and engagement activities assist with the development of guides, templates and resources that support best practice in First Nations research help maintain the First Nations Research Support Hub and research repository coordinate administration for targeted First Nations research funding programs support reporting, continuous improvement initiatives and Faculty research priorities work collaboratively with researchers, professional staff and First Nations stakeholders About you You will bring: experience in research support, research administration or a related environment desirable an understanding of, or interest in, supporting First Nations research and culturally appropriate research practices demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities demonstrate the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities a collaborative approach and commitment to delivering high-quality support services experience supporting research projects, ethics or grants will be highly regarded Sponsorship / work rights for Australia You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Eligibility and Selection Criteria Singapore citizen Doctoral candidates who have recently completed or are about to complete their studies in a discipline under the supported areas for START below Excellent academic record plus a high degree of proficiency and motivation for selected research area Have been accepted or have applied for a postdoctoral training at a leading overseas university in a research area that is aligned with SIT’s supported areas A keen interest in an academic career Value of Fellowship The Fellowship provides: Monthly stipend Overseas maintenance allowance Return economy airfare Conference and fieldwork grants Overseas medical insurance Fellows will also each be assigned a SIT faculty mentor throughout their post-doctoral training and have opportunities to participate in faculty development programmes. The fellowship is tenable for one year. On an exception basis, a two-year programme may be supported. Service Commitment One year for every year of sponsorship.
