About Kabul University

Basic information and contact details for Kabul University

institution

Founded in November 1932, Kabul University is one of the oldest and most prestigious public institutions of higher education in Afghanistan.

The university is located in Kabul, the capital and largest city of Afghanistan.

Spanning across more than 100 hectares, the university’s main campus is fully-equipped with facilities including numerous research centres, libraries, a legal clinic, gym, and ICT centre.

When the university was first established it offered only the Faculty of Medicine. It has since expanded to more than 20 faculties including the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature. Within each faculty are different departments, which offer a wide range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.

Since it opened, the university has established partnerships with other higher education institutions across the globe to facilitate academic exchange and student study abroad programmes. These institutions include the Peking University in China, California State University Northridge in the US and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in Japan.
