Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST) is located in the port city of Zhenjiang, on the south bank of the Yangtze River. It traces its origins back to the Shanghai Dagong Vocational School, which was founded in 1933. As it evolved, it underwent several name changes, broadened its provision, developed into a higher education institution and moved to Jiangsu province. In 2004, it was renamed Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. 

JUST started to teach undergraduates in 1978, and it gained the right to grant master¡¯s degrees in 1993 and doctoral degrees in 2008. Among its student population are some 1,000 international students from dozens of countries. There are almost 3,000 faculty members. The university¡¯s graduate employment rate is consistently above 95 per cent. 

JUST has trained many engineers and technicians to work in the industry, and it has produced numerous national naval vessels and modern marine craft. Its graduates make up about two-thirds of the technicians and professionals in the province¡¯s shipbuilding industry.

In addition to naval architecture and marine engineering, JUST is noted for teaching and research on silk and the raising of silkworms. Its Sericulture Research Institute is the only such facility in China and a world centre for the preservation of and research into sericulture germplasm resources.

The university has a number of international collaborations with institutions in Australia, the US, the UK, France, India, Japan and elsewhere.
