About the Position

The Faculty of Business and Law, School of Accountancy seeks to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. The appointee will teach and coordinate at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and contribute to ongoing curriculum development and teaching innovation projects.

The appointee will also actively seek funding for and participate in research activities in the School, including cross-disciplinary research as appropriate. The appointee will actively engage with internal and external stakeholders of the School, their profession and/or discipline, in line with the Faculty of Business and Law’s strategy.

This position reports to the Head of School for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

Key responsibilities include:


	Deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, incorporating innovative methods, authentic assessment and flexible learning, including online delivery.
	Provide academic leadership in unit and curriculum review, design and enhancement.
	Engagement with the professional community and accreditation bodies to influence and advance accounting education.
	Conduct research that leads to high impact journal publications, successful supervision of higher degree research students and competitive grant applications.
	Contribute to QUT’s research culture through collaborative projects with internal, external and international partners.
	Implement and administer University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.


To ensure job flexibility the successful appointee may be required to:


	perform any other duties as nominated by the University consistent with the relevant classification descriptors detailed in the Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking any new duties will receive training;
	participate in job rotation or multiskilling in consultation with their supervisor;
	work across campuses


The successful candidate may be appointed at Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) depending on their level of attainment against the position classification standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff). The position classification standards provide the basis to differentiate between the various levels of appointment and define the broad relationships between classifications. The University reserves the right to appoint at either classification level.

	Completion of a doctorial qualification in Accounting.
	Demonstrated high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including scholarly and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.
	Proven experience in course coordination, including curriculum design, redevelopment and effective management of teaching teams.
	Record of high-quality research publications in accounting journals and demonstrated success in attracting research funding.
	Experience contributing to administration in a university or professional setting, with ability to engage effectively in collaborative settings.
	Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain internal and external partnerships that enhance teaching and research outcomes.


Level C


	Completion of a doctorial qualification in Accounting.
	Demonstrated significant experience of high quality at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the use of innovative and evidence-based approaches to learning and teaching.
	Proven leadership in course coordination, including curriculum design, development and effective management of teaching teams.
	Established record of independent research contributions, successful supervision of higher degree research students and demonstrated success in obtaining external research income.
	Demonstrated leadership in fostering a high performing and collaborative culture in teaching and research.
	Strong communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and sustain internal and external partnerships that promote best practice and create opportunities for teaching and research.


Remuneration and Benefits

The classification for this position is:


	Academic Level B (LEVB) which has an annual remuneration range of $AUD134,910 to $AUD160,222 pa. Which is inclusive of an annual salary range of $AUD114,000 to $AUD135,390 pa, 17% superannuation and leave loading;
	Academic Level C (LEVC) which has an annual remuneration range of $AUD165,273 to $AUD190,593 pa. Which is inclusive of an annual salary range of $AUD139,657 to $AUD161,054 pa, 17% superannuation and leave loading.

An exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate has arisen as part of a collaboration project between Nissan Technical Centre Europe Ltd and Cranfield University. The project will focus on the development of a Virtual Testing Assistant (VTA) that integrates ontologies, knowledge graphs, and AI models to support Nissan’s digital transformation in vehicle testing.

About the Role

Your role will lead the design and development of the Virtual Testing Assistant (VTA), a tool that will help to accelerate the shift from traditional physical testing development towards smarter, simulation-driven approaches. Working closely with teams at Nissan and Cranfield University, you will bring together data management, semantic modelling, ontologies, and advanced AI tools such as Large Language Models (LLMs). The VTA will help identify optimal test scenarios, reduce unnecessary repetition, enhance simulation workflows, and improve test planning so vehicle development can be faster and more efficient development.

About You

You will hold an MSc (with a First Class undergraduate degree) or a PhD (or be close to completion) in a STEM discipline such as Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence.

This role requires strong programming skills (e.g. in Python), along with knowledge of machine learning and data modelling. Experience of delivering AI or data-driven projects is essential. Familiarity with ontologies (e.g. OWL), knowledge graphs (e.g. Neo4j, GraphDB), and system integration tools (e.g. APIs, SPARQL) would be highly desirable.

This role would suit an individual with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to apply systems thinking to complex engineering data challenges. You will be self-motivated, adaptable, and confident communicating across both academic and industrial teams. Knowledge of engineering simulation workflows or automotive systems would be an advantage.
