About the opportunity

The School of Art, Communication and English (SACE) explores the full spectrum of human expression and creativity, applying digital technology to humanities and social sciences. SACE is nationally and internally recognised for research strengths in literary studies, visual arts, art history, film studies, communication, media practice and digital cultures.

SACE are inviting applications for a Social Survey Researcher to work collaboratively with Professor Terry Flew on his ARC Laureate project of "Mediated Trust: Ideas, Interests, Institutions, Futures".

In this role, the successful candidate will be closely involved in the core activities of the Laureate, including the design of a comprehensive trust survey informed by current academic literature. This role will work with third-party platforms such as Qualtrics to support the distribution of the survey and assist in developing appropriate sample populations. Additionally, this role will be coordinating with a network of researchers across seven countries: the UK, Austria, Canada, Singapore, China, Germany, and Australia to organise and implement the international survey. The candidate will be responsible for collating and analysing the data, preparing it for circulation, and contributing as a co-author to scholarly journal publications alongside leading experts in the field.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	develop and create a trust survey in collaboration with an interdisciplinary research team
	undertake qualitative and quantitative data analysis and employ digital methods in applied research
	prepare and submit academic journal articles, and contribute to the editing of research collections
	significantly contribute to successful applications for competitive research grants and/ or funding to deliver research impact
	generate and circulate research findings leading to improved policy, professional practice, and industry and community engagement.


About you


	a PhD in a media and digital communications and/or social sciences
	evidence of holding an emerging research profile and the ability to conduct independent research and assume responsibility for the development and completion of research papers in a timely manner
	experience in applying qualitative and/or digital methods
	experience utilising statistical packages and/or data visualisation tools
	demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, capacity to succeed in a fast-paced research-intensive environment, and sound written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills suitable to collaborating in an academic context.

The role:

This fixed-term position has been established to cover a vacancy arising from a long-term internal secondment. The primary focus will be on teaching, as well as leadership and service related to teaching activities. We are looking to recruit a Senior Programme Officer to support the running of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The Senior Programme Officer provides essential support to students and academics working as part of the programmes team to ensure that high quality administrative and student support is provided from enrolment to graduation. About the role:

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent customer service and technical skills who will deliver a first-class user experience for staff, students, and visitors via in-person support, telephone calls, email, and Microsoft Teams.??

The role will be primarily based at our Campus on The Strand, next to Somerset House. You will provide support to our lecture theatres, classrooms, meeting rooms and event spaces. Your daily duties will include assisting users and maintaining devices and systems including Crestron control systems, PCs, data projectors, microphones, cameras, lecture capture, and other AV equipment.

Other responsibilities include managing AV bookings, ensuring that the required AV equipment is available and functioning in the rooms or delivered as required; using remote tools to monitor and assist users; audio and video recording of lectures and events; upkeep of documentation; sharing knowledge with the team.?

As part of a team of senior technicians you will be one of the technical and customer escalation points for other team members, help to identify service improvements, shape our AV standards, and be able to work independently or under the supervision of the AV Supervisor. You will have proven technical experience in an AV specialism with a good understanding of the underlying theory.

You will take the initiative in arranging and supporting events, user training requests, and maintenance issues.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week) with regular opportunities for overtime, and you will be offered an? indefinite? contract. This role will include some evening work as shifts fall within the service hours of 8am-11pm.

The role

A research fellow position is available to work on the project “Dynamic and Adaptable Monitoring of Greenhouse Gas Emissions with Robots” funded by the UKRI Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) at the University of Surrey.?

Accurately measuring greenhouse gas emissions from human activity is challenging. Static sensors only measure one point in space, but sensors mounted to unmanned aircraft are noisy and can only fly for a short time. We are addressing this challenge by building an autonomous, mobile gas flux tower, consisting of a helium-filled aerodynamic kite tethered to an autonomous ground vehicle. Multiple vehicles operating together will create high resolution maps of emissions and airflow, at unprecedented spatial resolutions.

The project will be carried out in a newly outfitted robotics facility at the University of Surrey, with access to the Environmental Flow Laboratory wind tunnel facilities, gas analysis laboratories, and outdoor test spaces. The project will include industrial collaboration for extensive fieldwork at a variety of sites in southeast England, and the Ebro Delta in Spain.?

This post is available immediately, and is required to end in June 2026 (although funding is in place for a six-month extension). The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team in Mechanical Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering, and will have the following responsibilities:


	Development and implementation of hardware and software;
	Data analysis and modelling;
	Coordination of field measurement and?data analysis;
	Writing reports and publications;
	Supporting project team and?organising?project meetings;


The project includes generous equipment budget and funding for both conference travel and international fieldwork to test the proposed system.?
